Geosummon Species Information - Informations sur l'espèce de Géo-invocations

GEOSUMMON SPECIES

OVERVIEW

History

As their name suggests, Geosummons are mineral-based entities that are created by skilled enchanters for use as summons. The enchanting process centers around a Core Gem: the mineral which the enchantment is focused on, and which will retain the enchantment's fingerprint. Additional minerals are used along with the core gem to create the Geosummon's limbs and head, as well as increase the Geosummon's mass and volume. Larger Geosummons will require more materials than smaller Geosummons, and vice versa. As such, a Geosummon's size tends to shrink drastically as its material becomes rarer and more expensive. It is common for enchanters to practice Geosummoning using local rocks.

Once created, Geosummons degrade (or age) at a geological scale, and are commonly classified as immortal. However, they will die if their Core Gem is destroyed. This makes them especially susceptible to melting temperatures, explosions, and shattering blows.

A Geosummon's magic-imbued limbs are surprisingly malleable, allowing the otherwise solid material to move and act similarly to living tissue. However, this malleability occurs slowly, making Geosummons stiff and slow. To circumvent this problem, an enchanter may hire a stone or gem cutter to carve joints into the minerals they will be enchanting.

Gem cutters are also important to Geosummon maintenance. A Geosummon's minerals will slowly grow in a wild, natural manner. Archaically, braces were used to hinder this growth. However, the most common practice has become periodically bringing the Geosummon to a gem or rock cutter to remove the growths and prevent clogged joints or unfavourable appearances.

Composition

- Each Geosummon has 1 Core Gem, which is either exposed or protected. This Core Gem can be located anywhere in the Geosummon's body.
- A Geosummon's extremities (head, limbs, tail) are most commonly made of minerals.
- A Geosummon's torso is made from an ethereal mass of magic, held together by its Core Gem.

The 4 Pillars of Geosummon Creation

  1. Geological Material
Includes minerals, gemstones, rocks, and certain organic-based materials like amber, fossils, or petrified wood. The type, quantity (See Details: Sizes), and cut (See Details: Mineral Cut) of the material will effect the Geosummon's overall look.

  2. Enchanter's Spirit Animal
An enchanter's magic naturally takes on certain forms, and this form is different for each individual. It most commonly takes the form of an animal, and is therefore referred to as ones spirit animal. Despite the title, a spirit animal can include humanoids, mythical beasts, and plants. A Geosummon will take the form of its enchanter's spirit animal.

  3. Enchanter's Magic Type
An enchanter's magic can have unique characteristics, which are transferred to the Geosummons they create. On rare occasions, special magic can even grant a Geosummon special abilities; this phenomena has little documentation. (see Details: Magic Types)

  4. Intention
An intention is imprinted on a Geosummon's Core Gem during the enchanting process. This intention will affect how a Geosummon will appear. (see Details: Intention)

DETAILS

Magic Types (With Examples):

  1. Basic
The most common type of magic. Colours range from aquamarines to violets, with swirling clouds within the main magical mass.

    Coloured
Basic magic of an unusual colour.

  2. Contour
Any magic whose composition affects its exterior appearance or perceived weight. It comes in many colours.

    Segmented
A magical mass that is broken up into two or more parts.

    Lightweight
A magic that floats up from its core mass.

    Heavyweight
A magic that drips down from its core mass.

  3. Substance
Any magic whose composition affects its interior appearance or consistency. A magic's consistency can effect its luminosity and translucency. It comes in many colours.

    Shapely
A magic with a unique internal pattern

    Galaxy
    A darker-toned magic with a starry appearance.

    Hollow
A magic that lacks the swirling clouds of basic magic, creating a perfectly flat colour.

  4. Complex
Any magic whose composition affects its entirety. It can be any colour.

    Spark
Magic with a flame-like appearance, which crackles from within and can spit embers. It cannot burn its surroundings, but is often described as warm to the touch. Most commonly seen in warm colours.

    Tide
Magic with a watery or slimy appearance, which undulates like the waves. It can drip or splash. Most commonly seen in cool colours.

    Void
Lacks a glow and tends to be more opaque and weighty. Often creates a dripping or sticky effect

Intention:

  1. Balanced (basic)
The most common intention due to its versatility. Geosummons with a balanced intention are well-rounded to preform most tasks at an adequate level. The limbs, head, and occasionally the tail of a balanced Geosummon are made of solid material.

  2. Bulky (defence)
Geosummons built to take a hit. They are harder to destroy, and are more resilient to heat. Only poorly-built bulky Geosummons have an exposed core gem, as this greatly reduces their resistance to attacks. Bulky Goesummons have more solid material than other variants, and often have a shell or partial shell surrounding their body.

  3. Aggressive (attack)
Geosummons that are made to fight and kill. A well-built aggressive Geosummon will have its extremities polished and sharpened to deadly points. Great care is put into carving the head and teeth of an aggressive Geosummon.

  4. Fleet-footed (speed)
Geosummons created to give chase or navigate difficult terrain. Only jointed materials are considered suitable to a fleet-footed Geosummon; anything else works against its nature. Fleet-footed Geosummons have less solid material than other variants.

  5. Ghost (Gem Core only)
A Geosummon lacking any material other than its core gem.

  6. Purebred (beauty)
A Geosummon created for its beauty and value. Purebred Geosummons are usually made from rarer materials, and are always cut and polished. No expense is too big for this rare subset of Geosummon.

  7. Failed (grotesque)
Enchantments that don't go quite right, leaving the Geosummon deformed or otherwise scarred. Still, many people still take ownership of failed Geosummons; usually new students or their mothers.

Mineral Cut:

  1. Rough
A mineral kept mostly in its natural state

  2. Cut
A mineral that has been cut and/or polished by the enchanter or a gem cutter.

  3. Jointed
A rough mineral that has been cut into parts that fit and move together with ease

  4. Cut and Jointed
Cut minerals that have been fitted together to move with ease

Sizes:

  • Micro (x10+ smaller)

  • Dwarf (x2-x9 smaller)

  • Normal (average size of the spirit animal)

  • Mega (x2-x9 bigger)

  • Titan (x10+ bigger)
